Very Limited

Bruichladdich 18 Year Old (2008) - finished for 3 years in a fresh Oloroso Sherry hogshead - from single cask #1627.  Non chill filtered and natural colour, bottled at cask strength (57.3% ABV) yielding only 185 bottles by Halcyon Spirits.

Distilled: 09/06/2008, Bottled: 09/06/2026.

Nose
Elegant and coastal at first: sea breeze, wet stone, barley sugar and Bruichladdich’s clean orchard-fruit character. The Oloroso comes in as toasted walnut, dried apricot, orange peel, sultana, polished oak and a little leather. With time, it opens into honeyed porridge, butterscotch, cinnamon, cocoa nib and a faint floral note.

Palate
Full, creamy and rounded. Ripe peach, baked apple and tropical fruit sit under a richer sherry layer of raisin, fig, date, toasted almond and brown sugar. There’s a lovely tension between Bruichladdich’s bright, mineral distillate and the darker Oloroso notes: treacle, spiced orange, nut loaf, old oak and a touch of salted caramel.

Finish
Medium-long to long. Drying Oloroso nuttiness, oak spice, dark honey, cocoa, candied citrus and coastal minerality. A final note of walnut skin, malt biscuit and soft leather.

Distillery Location
Bruichladdich - 18 Year Old (2008) Halcyon Spirits Release #7's home is Distillery Location distillery, in the Islay region of Scotland.

Bruichladdich Distillery is a distillery on the Rhinns of the isle of Islay in Scotland. The distillery produces mainly single malt Scotch whisky, but has also offered artisanal gin. It is owned by Rémy Cointreau after being owned by Mark Reyneir.

One interpretation of the Gaelic word Bruichladdich is "stony shore bank", referring to a post-glacial raised beach, though an alternative, perhaps more pertinent translation may be "rocky lee shore".
