Kilkerran - Heavily Peated (Batch #10)'s home is Distillery Location distillery, in the Campbeltown region of Scotland.

Springbank distillery is one of the last surviving producers of Campbeltown Single Malts. The distillery, located on the southern Kintyre peninsula, produces three distinct types of single malt Scotch whisky.

Springbank is one of only two distilleries in Scotland to perform every step in the whisky making process, from malting the barley to bottling the spirit, on same premises: the other is Kilchoman Distillery who also grow their own barley. While a few others still maintain the first step in the process, the malting of barley (which is becoming more rare), Springbank also bottles their own whisky.

Three variants of single malt are produced from its distillery by tweaking the production process at various stages;

Springbank Single Malt is the most popular variety, Longrow Single Malt is a highly-peated, double-distilled whisky and Hazelburn Single Malt, the newest variety.

    Superb Value

    Been a while since I have had a batch of the Heavily Peated release so thought it was time to finally get this batch. If memory serves me correct things have really come on since batch 1 and 2, which I found very enjoyable, but a tad rough. I am pleased to find the fruity elements more dominating on this one one. On the nose you get the bourbon cask influence up front with creaminess, vanilla custard creams and scotch shortbread. With a bit more time in the glass the peat and coastal nature comes out, with that fruity, almost tropical type aroma. Very lush indeed.

    On the palate the peat influence becomes stronger and more pronounced, and more sharper fruitier notes like gooseberry, grapefruit and lime, balanced very nicely with a honeywed type sweetness, peat and smoke. On the finish definitely some oak influence, and the peat remains firm, trailing off slowly which makes this a nice, longer, lingering finish. Overall a fantastic dram that to me feels more balanced than the very early releases. I look forward to trying out batch 11 when it does come out. Thanks to the Still Spirit team for the fair price and great service as well.

    Amazing Dram from Campbeltown

    A stunning example of a brilliantly made and matured Campbeltown whisky. Heavily peated but each sip over time reveals changing flavours and complexity. Delicious. Not sure how long it will last 😊

    Wonderful whisky.

    Cask strength, natural colour and non chill filtered. As near to drinking straight from the barrel as you can get!
